Privacy policy

Last updated: 22 October 2026

In short: there is no sign-up, no advertising, no cookies and no tracking across other sites. We count page views without identifying you, and your quiz progress stays in your own browser.

Who runs this site

This site is run by Life in the UK Explained, the data controller for the personal data described here. If you have any questions about this policy, email [email protected].

Data kept on your device

To remember your progress, the site uses your browser's built-in localStorage to keep the following. It stays on your device and is never sent to our server or to anyone else:

We use this only to show your progress, not to identify you. To clear it, press "Start this chapter again" at the end of a chapter, or delete this site's data in your browser settings.

Hosting

The site is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the time of each request, in order to deliver pages to your device and protect the site from attacks and abuse. We rely on our legitimate interests in keeping the site secure and working. For how Cloudflare handles this data, see Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Visitor statistics

To see which chapters and languages people read, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics. A small script from Cloudflare counts each page view. It uses no cookies and stores nothing on your device, and it doesn't build a profile of you or follow you to other sites. We only see totals, such as page views by page, country and type of device. We rely on our legitimate interests in understanding how the site is used so we can improve it. For details, see Cloudflare Web Analytics.

What we don't use

If you email us

If you write to us, for example to report a mistake, we use your email address and message to reply and to fix the site. We rely on our legitimate interest in answering your message. We don't share it with anyone, and we delete it once it's no longer needed.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR) you can ask to see, correct or delete any personal data we hold about you. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, please contact us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

If we ever add payments or anything else that handles more personal data, we'll update this page first and change the date above.
